History of Landmark Baptist Church

Landmark Baptist Church of Grafton, WV. was started on August 10, 2003 under the leadership of Pastor Jeff Shelton.

Pastor Shelton graduated in April 2002 with a Bachelor�s degree in Pastoral Theology from Atlantic Baptist Bible College in Chester, Va. Pastor Shelton had a burden for West Virginia and always felt that the Lord wanted him to begin an Independent, fundamental Baptist Church somewhere in the state.

After graduating from Bible College, he and his family began to travel and seek the Lord's will for their lives and ministry. Pastor Shelton trained for the ministry for five years with Dr. Jim Sumpter, Pastor of Landmark Baptist Church in Richmond, Va.

The name Landmark does not associate our church with the current Landmarkism movement that is taking place in the U.S. today. The name was chosen because it seemed appropriate for the part of the country it would be located and it is also a distinct name. West Va. is known for it�s Landmark Mountains and Pastor Shelton felt the church would become a landmark in the community. There are plans to build a permanent church building in Taylor County in the future.
